A piece starts with a drawing, traced the moment an idea crosses our mind. We rework it, we think about the material, and it goes off to be prototyped in Europe, the destination depending on whether it is leather goods or the wardrobe. The first prototype is reworked until it falls right.
A piece goes into production when the material and the prototype are settled.
Every piece is taken in hand again before it leaves. A flaw is final. The piece comes out of the lot, goes back to the workshop and becomes something else. No piece leaves the workshop without final approval.
Every piece has its record: composition, origin, workshop, date of manufacture, serial number, care. The label carries the essentials, the record goes further.
We work in two ways, as different as they are complementary.
The series first. A wardrobe and leather goods we keep, remake, improve. That is where the shapes, the patterns and the finishes are worked out.
Then the confidential edition, the free part of the house. There we take up a shape we want to look at again, we try a model that does not yet exist, we wake a leather that was asleep. The number of pieces is settled before we begin, and once it is reached the edition is closed.
The series feeds the edition. The edition feeds the series.
The leather goods are made in Ubrique, a village in Andalusia that has lived off leather for generations. Ubrique sews for the houses whose names everyone knows. We go there for the hand, for the craft.
The wardrobe is sewn in Europe, mainly in Portugal. The country kept its workshops when almost everywhere else they were closing.
From one workshop to the next, a piece is awaited.
On the leather goods, a contactless chip is sewn into the lining. Hold a phone to it; the record opens: composition, origin, workshop, date of manufacture, serial number, care. It is there to inform and to certify authenticity.
The charms carry one too, the chip lodged where it cannot be felt. As for the wardrobe, we have chosen not to fit one.
A supplier refuses an origin: the record says unknown, rather than an invented answer.
The chip is passive. No battery, nothing to charge, nothing you can feel under a finger. It follows no one; it answers when it is asked.
Aparthés was born in Paris in 2026. It moves forward in chapters: some will last years, others the length of a season. Chapter 0 opens in the second half of 2027: three pieces, two of leather goods and the first of the wardrobe.
Paris saw the house born; it will not stay there. We live here, but we do not sit still, we take the world as it comes.
